My neighbor, Jim Barnes, invited me along for a day of golf at Spanish Bay -- the first time I've played a golf course at Pebble Beach... I got a fun group, hailing from Chicago, Indianapolis, and Atlanta -- and we had our moments of real golf. I got off to a great start, and then reeled off seven penalties (!). There is a lot of "Environmentally Sensitive Areas" there (where you cannot hit out of deep rough, etc), if you're crooked, you're in trouble.
San Francisco has some wonderful municipal golf courses, and Lincoln Park is one of the most scenic. These pictures were taken from the 10th and 17th tee boxes, with views of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco bay, respectively:
