Watching Barry Bonds break Hank Aaron's record was a special moment in baseball history -- and watching Barry Bonds hit for the past 10 years has been amazing; he is easily the most-disciplined slugger I've ever seen.
Kevin Gottesman took this picture of me and Thomas Layton (and it looks like we have an official time for the historic home run too)!
All-Star weekend was quite a show in San Francisco -- people really seemed to enjoy the park, the weather, and the events.
Derek Jeter and A-Rod clearly know how to play nice. As you can see here, they play long-toss together, hang-out during practice together...
The game was actually a good one -- it came down to the last out (NL had bases-loaded with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth down a run). Scott Sanford and I put another notch in our memorable slew of games that we've attended together...
Today was the "Workout Day" for the All Stars -- everybody got to hang out and watch B.P., and there was a lot of interleague-chatting going on amongst the players, who really seemed to be enjoying each other's company and the sunny afternoon:
Barry Bonds didn't take part in the Home Run Derby, but during batting practice he put on a show:
The All Star weekend also brings strange sights, like A-Rod warming up with Big Poppy:
The Counting Crows played before the Derby began -- the pyrotechnics were a bit odd (especially during the day):
Aaron Barnes, Kevin Gottesman and I had a great time watching Vladimir Guerrerro beat Alex Rios in the final of the Home Run Derby -- Vlad's longest shot went out of the stadium in LF into the parking lot -- but there were other fine performances today by Matt Holiday, Albert Pujols, and Ryan Howard.
The beat the Diamondback in this series, with a 13-0 blowout in today's final game behind 12 Ks from Tim Lincecum. Barry Bonds was 1 for 2 with a double and two walks through 7 innings -- and today he was officially voted in as one of three NL Starters in the outfield for the All-Star Game next week, which is being held here in San Francisco.
Here's the cheer Lincecum got after striking out 12 batters (career high) in 7 innings and ~95 pitches:
Lincecum really started to look like a major league pitcher tonight -- he changed speeds well throughout -- and kept the Diamondbacks off-balance. Three or four hits -- only two were solid hits... He should build off of this win and gain some confidence (especially in his off-speed pitches).
